About us
Inspiration for the patented convertible technology came after witnessing the esteemed owners of a luxury dayboat in the Mediterranean unceremoniously huddled together under a small canvas bimini to keep dry.
Combining his flair for design, national marine surveying accreditation and commercial engineering experience, it was only natural that Van Diemen’s Principal Designer, Andrew Fearman, began to imagine a convertible solution.
He believed that there must be a better way.
Our Crew
Andrew Fearman | Principal Designer
Andrew is a hands-on practical marine designer with almost 20 years seafaring, and experience in a broad range of marine systems. His experience includes project management and technical superintendent work on commercial ships, large tourism and super yacht vessels. Starting his training in naval architecture he transferred to complete his degree in marine engineering.
Andrew is a marine surveyor accredited by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority. His experience in Computer Aided Drawing and Design using Rhino 3D Modelling Software gives Andrew the ability to develop unique designs across multiple disciplines that are both practical and stylish.
Jo Fearman | Business Manager
Jo has worked in marine and environmental science for the past 15 years. She has a PhD in aquaculture and is a qualified coxswain and scientific diver. Jo currently leads a science program which coordinates government and industry stakeholders and informs policy to improve water quality.
Jo has training in governance and leadership in her role as Director in the not for profit sector. Jo’s training and experience in research, project management and governance support Van Diemen’s projects and processes.
Van Diemen
With a long and rich history of innovative boat building and skilled shipwrights, Australia’s southernmost island state is surrounded by the pure waters of the southern ocean. Tasmania, once known as Van Diemen’s Land, was named by intrepid Dutch explorers back in 1642. Meaning ‘from the waters’ the name Van Diemen is the hallmark of Tasmanian heritage. Tasmania is renowned for producing high quality, cutting edge, handcrafted vessels that are highly sought-after throughout the world.
